CASA VERDE
Completed Q2 2025
An Exercise in Permanence
Casa Verde is an intimate sanctuary nestled into Lisbon’s historic Lapa hillside. Comprising six terraced residential pavilions stepped naturally into the topography, the project honors centuries-old Portuguese masonry craft while establishing unprecedented environmental standards for Southern European residential living.
Architectural Concept & Form
The architectural language is rooted in raw simplicity: local Sintra limestone, lime-washed stucco, and bespoke terracotta solar brise-soleils. Broad sheltered loggias frame golden afternoon light spilling across the Tagus River, blending internal living salons with lush private botanical gardens.
Form follows climatic consequence. By treating natural light, prevailing atmospheric currents, and regional materials not as peripheral considerations but as generative structural catalysts, the building achieves an innate sense of belonging.
Environmental & Regenerative Commitments
Thermal Mass & Night Purging
Thick native limestone construction absorbs diurnal heat, paired with automated clerestory windows that flush cool Atlantic breezes at twilight.
Geothermal Heat Pumps
Ground-source geothermal boreholes provide 100% of heating, domestic hot water, and underfloor cooling with zero emissions.
Ancient Aquifer Rainwater Cistern
Restored 18th-century stone subterranean cisterns capture winter rains to sustain hillside gardens year-round.
